Mission

Provide the highest quality health care, maximize the medical deployability of the force, ensure the readiness of Womack personnel, and sustain exceptional education and training programs.

Vision

The Army's Medical Center of excellence . . . the choice of America's finest!

The Department of Surgery at Womack Army Medical Center consists of seven specialty clinics/services and the Anesthesia/Operative services. Most of our clinics are accessed by referral only from either a primary care provider or by a provider from another specialty clinic.

We invite you to read about the services we offer the Fort Bragg community. The Department of Surgery Philosophy is that we will assist anyone who seeks our help, no matter what!

General Surgery Service

The General Surgery Service provides surgical treatment of abdominal diseases such as gallbladder, stomach, pancreas, small and large intestine, anorectum, hemorrhoids, and hernias; endocrine diseases such as thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal; breast disease; chest diseases to include esophagus and lung; skin problems such as burns and other lesions; vascular diseases and trauma of all sorts.

Laparoscopic, thoracoscopic, as well as endoscopic surgical techniques are provided when appropriate to include laparoscopic reflux surgery and colonoscopy. Pediatric surgical care is also available. Active duty service members, retirees, and their families are all welcome for care by our service. Ten general surgeons see approximately 15,000 clinic patients yearly. A wound care clinic is run Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 0730 - 1100. No wound care is available on Wednesday mornings.

Minor surgical procedures are also performed in clinic. The General Surgery Service trains all Womack Family Practice interns and physician assistants, as well as junior and senior surgical residents from Walter Reed and Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Centers. Several of our surgeons are Clinical Assistant Professors of Surgery for the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Coordinated care via direct referral and consultation with Walter Reed Army Medical Center is available.
